The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry have approved a proposal of “The Validity of NEET Score for 3 Years” by the MCI (Medical Council of India)-Board of Governors.

Yes. You read that right. The NEET score valid for 3 years for students in India who wish to pursue UG medical course overseas.

The Board of governors stated that “Result of NEET shall be valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of result, entitling a candidate to pursue MBBS or equivalent medical course including pre-medical/language course, if any, followed by MBBS or equivalent medical course.”

Annually, more than seven thousand students choose foreign countries for medical course.

The notification further stated that these regulations may be called the “Eligibility Requirement for Taking Admission in an Undergraduate Medical Course in a Foreign Medical Institution (Amendment) Regulation, 2019.”

In March 2018, the MCI declared that Indian citizens or the Overseas Citizen of India desirous of obtaining a primary medical qualification in university or colleges outside India from May 2018 should have to qualify the NEET exam for getting admission.

Post this, in 2017-18, the Medical Council of India received 18,383 applications, while in the previous year the total no. of applications received was 10,555.

And then the MCI issued 14,118 eligibility certificates in 2017-18, whereas in the year 2016-17, it was 8,737.

As you are aware, NEET exam is an entry test conducted by the NTA once in a year for medical course admission in all the medical institutions across the country for both private & government colleges except some institutions including JIPMER & AIIMS.

In 2018, the MCI circulated a notification, as per which NEET was made mandatory for even those students who wanted to pursue their UG medical course abroad.
